| I would like confirmation about the proposed ban on importing vehicles older than 10 years having been delayed until Jan 1st. I might try to arrange for one to be shipped in to Nassau if it can be delivered in under 10 weeks. A URLs or some method to confirm would be great. Thanks, Blue | |

| Don't know of any moratorium Blue.
The latest I can find is this: http://www.tribune242.com/news/2015/may/28/duty-rate-cars-cut-ban-vehicles-over-ten-years-old/
Which suggests that over ten years old is bad.
At ten years old here in the UK we would most likely be scrapping them unless they are potential classics. Not too many of them around though with CAD and wind-tunnel design these days.
Have you considered a nine-year old? Import duty is reduced from 85% to 65% anyway.
Love you both.

| Hey IB:
Over the last two years there has been a flood of Japanese cars coming into Nassau. So many that it is disturbing the normal car buying process for North American cars. Japan I believe has a no car on the road after 10 years policy so ALL cars must leave and a good number already go to Ft Lauderdale but you can also order direct from Japan.
A typical car could be bought, shipped and taxes and duty paid for $5,000 US and my neighbour has done it twice for $3,300. They are clean and have 10 year mileage of 30-50,000 km. I have compared what a similar car would cost out of Nassau or already on Eleuthera and the cost would be double or more. My neighbour thinks if you ordered one every second year, selling the first one would pay for the second. He had plenty of offers to buy his first one more than $1,000 higher than his costs.
A rush on my end only is required if the deadline proposed by the Bahamas gov't which was declared for Sept 1 gets pushed back to Jan 1st. Since I am arriving at the end of December, I could pick up my vehicle in Nassau enrolee to Eleuthera. I am looking for confirmation to confirm one post on Facebook.

| So...assuming a car lands in Nassau in 2016...is a 10 year old car a 2006 or 2007? I have been told they looked for when it manufactured...like you could buy a new 2016 vehicle now although made in 2015.
Let's assume car is made the same year as model...is a 2006 car ten years old or 11?
I could plan on 2007 and be done with it I know but am curious as to what the rule is as applied.

| 2006 is actually 11 years old.... in 2016 you need to purchase a 2007 to be safe. | |

| I spoke with a broker in Nassau today. He said the 10 year ban is in effect but that 2005 have been allowed until Dec 31st. He had to check and get back to me (still waiting) but he thought that meant 2006 would be good for all of next year. | |

| Wonder what happens if you want to purchase a vehicle from Nassau that is more than 10 years old? | |

| If the car is already here then I think it is okay, only imports would be affected.

| Oh forgot to add 2006 is good for all of 2016. I am a little nervous when some of the sites out of Japan indicate when the air bag was made and in some cases it is a year earlier. | |
